Scavenger Hunt for a Summer Hike with Children
Taking your kids on a summer hike can be an adventure! Incorporating a scavenger hunt into the hike can add competition for older kids and an “I Spy” element for younger kids to keep everyone engaged and excited about both the journey and the destination.
In “Hiking with Kids of Any Age,” REI Co-op suggests, “Rediscover your inner child: For kids, it truly is the journey, not the destination. Remind yourself of that, then explore with them, one mini marvel at a time.”
Walkabouts has created a Scavenger Hunt to use for curious children. Look for each object or animal on your hike. Make a check in the box when you find it. Fill in a blank for each colorful thing you find. Remember, take only pictures and memories!
