Challenge

Carly Kleckner began using Walkabouts during the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic to keep her students engaged with the required curriculum while in front of a screen. Like other school districts across the country, Northern York County School District offered a remote learning option for students during the 2021-2022 school year.

Solution

While searching for resources to support her students’ families with remote learning, Kleckner came across Walkabouts. She immediately put it to use within her classroom, noting that its ease-of-use required almost no learning curve. Now that she teaches multiple grade levels, Kleckner can use Walkabouts’ K-2 standards-aligned lessons to support all of her students by meeting them at their learning levels.

Additional Outcomes

Kleckner’s remote learners love working together to complete Walkabouts activities and participate in Walkabouts lessons, and she can use Walkabouts and accompanying Walksheets to assess their progress. Walkabouts is an efficient way to teach standards-aligned content while providing much-needed engagement and movement opportunities for students. “I feel like that’s a big piece of the program… that it does the activity piece and the curriculum piece and the formative assessment piece. It’s a really cool resource that I would love to see more people using.”
